Livestock Census
The Government of Uganda is carrying out the National livestock census (NLC) 2021 to take stock of the country’s livestock and associated characteristics. Specifically, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industry and Fisheries and local governments has collected data from households, large scale farms and institutions.
The census will generate data on;
- Population of all livestock types
- Production systems
- Access to veterinary extension services
- Land ownership
- Milk production
- Ownership of livestock
- Main type of labour by sex
A Total of 32,486 Enumeration Areas (EAs) or villages have been covered in the whole country, 23,443 EAs in 560 cattle corridor sub –counties while 9,4043 EAs have been sampled and enumerated from 961 non cattle corridor sub-counties.
Preliminary results from this census are expected to be released during July 2021.
